How To Pick A Subject Or Topic To Rap Or Write About

Rapping is an art form that a lot people can learn but only a few have mastered. Those that have mastered it have made a good living off of it and have learned how to pick a subject to rap about with relative ease. To pick a subject or top to rap or write about can be easy or it can be difficult depending on how hard you make it. There are an infinite number of things around you for you to write a rap about. You can write a rap about people, a rap about money, a rap about cars, or a rap about anything else. If you are stumped and don't know what to write about then think about the things that interest you. What are your favorite things to do? What is your favorite sport? Whats your favorite car? Your favorite song? There's things that I do to get ideas for a rap song and to brainstorm for songs to write about. One thing that I do that is fun is I will listen to
my favorite rap song and sing along to the lyrics. But what makes it fun and helpful in picking something to write about is I will substitute some of my own funny words in place of the real lyrics to the song. For instance if the song says "I love to get money everyday and every night", I would change the lyrics to "I love to be funny and wear my pants tight." This adds a funny and fun twist to the song and it allows me to brainstorm and get ideas at the same time. Now I know how to write a rap song. Or now I have gotten some ideas of what to rap about.

Another way to find a subject to rap about is to look around you. Are you at home, at someone's house, or at work. Any of these places can give you ideas of what to write about. If you are at home then look around the room that you are in. What was the last thing you used in that room? You can rap about that thing you last used. What about the person's house that you are at? Is there someone else there of the opposite x that you find attractive? That can be a good idea for a love rap. You can rap about how that person makes you feel every time you see them. Think about LL Cool J. song "I Need Love." Love raps are a huge part of the rap industry songs today. So you cant go wrong with one of those type of songs. What about work? Are you at work on a break thinking up raps? Think about the a person at work that you may not care much for. Maybe it's a supervisor or boss that is too pushy and assertive. You could write a rap about how you feel about that person. And let's not forget the person at work that is always in your business and not in their own and seems like they would love to get you fired. You could probably think up about 10 raps in a day about that type of person. There are infinite subjects and situations to write about. Write a rap outside.

For me I do my best thinking when I am outside. I when I first started to write rap songs I rode the bus a lot. I found that it was a very productive place in which to write raps. It was productive to me because there were so many people holding so many conversations that I would jot down some of the things that they were talking about and use what each conversation was about to write a song for each. People are always having relationship problems, problems at work, drug dealers selling drugs, relatives that got locked up, and on and on. I would also ride the metro train for hours in both direction just to be able to write a good rap song. Maybe you have drama of your own going on in your life. The things that you are most passionate about are the things that will make your best songs. What struggle or bad situation are you and your girl or guy going through? What about the fall out that you and your friends had? Or what about issues with your parents and you not getting along or a parent that is sick and you having to deal with the pain. A lot of times for me the issues that I face are lessened when I get that pen and paper out and write a song about what i'm going thru. It's like therapy for me. And if you are looking to write a rap song i'm sure it has the same affect. So try going outside or to some public place and watch the people zipping by. Picture yourself as the man on the payphone of the woman pushing the baby stroller with two other little kids tagging along. What could they be going through? Do they look happy? If so what could they have to be happy about? Do they look sad or upset? What things could cause those types of feelings? And if you can put yourself in their shoes then approach one of the people like the lady pushing the babies. Tell her you notice that she was upset and you just wanted to know if she was ok or needed someone to talk to. If the person tell you what the problems are then you both made a friend and found a great subject to write a rap about. The fact is that rap subjects to write about are all around us and you have many places of inspiration to pull from.

One of the most often asked questions is what are good rap topics. I usually answer by saying anything. What ever it is that you are interested in at the moment is a good topic. You may be going out to clubs a lot and having tons of fun doing that. You can rap about a typical night out at your favor club or with you friends. Do you meet girls or guys? Do you drink? Do you like to mingle and just meet everyone you can at a party that night. You can talk about what type of clothing you are wearing or someone who attracts you is wearing. Are the clothes tight, fitting nice, name brand and fashionable, exclusive clothing no one else has. Maybe your sporting a limited edition sneaker that no one has ever seen before? All of these things can be good rap topics. The sky is the limit when it comes to subjects because really nothing is off limits. Notorious B.I.G. once rapped "cheese eggs and Welches grape!" That just goes to show that you can find topics everywhere. As long as you can make it fit and sound good then are on your way.
