Writing a rap intro

A rap introduction is the beginning of the rap song.  You can learn here how to write a rap intro.  The rap intro begins when the beat starts playing.  It is usually about 8 bars long and it is what introduces the what the song is going to be about.  Some rap song have an introduction that where the rapper will talk over the beat and say a few lines pertaining to the song.  The will talk about anything from girls to friends to what is going on in their life or environment.  It just like a preface to a book where you foreshadow a little about what its going to be about.  Another thing with the intro is where you can play the hook as the intro.  A lot of rap songs have the hook as the intro and they let that lead up to the song.

Rap intros are very important to the rap song as they convey the message of the rap.  It is very difficult to have a rap song with no introduction.  This is an especially bad idea if you plan to release a song intended for radio airplay.  The reason it is a bad idea for a radio single is because it doesn't five a radio dj time to introduce the song.  And it prevents the song from being played immediately after another song.  Without an intro the song will play immediately behind the previous song without a pause break and it will appear that your song is apart of the previous song, almost like a remix.  This robs your song from having an identity of its own.  It also boosts the profile of the other song because listeners will think it was apart of the previous song.  This will make all of your hard work go in vain.  So when you work on your song make sure you have a intro to it.

There is no set way that you have to have your intro. It can be as long as you want it to be or as short as you want it to be as long as you include one. Make sure that you have a beat picked out that has the intro the same length that your written intro has. Or make sure that whoever produced the beat is able to tailor the beats to your specifications. A good producer will come in handy when it comes to creating the perfect rap song that you are trying to achieve. If you cant come up with anything to say on your intro or don't want the hook to serve as your intro then there is an alternative. You can just let the beat ride or play for the intro and then start your first verse. It is totally up to you and what your inspiration tells you to do. When you are writing your intro or rap remember not to ever erase or throw away any lyrics. It is easier to just draw a line threw any words you need to edit out. I say that because many times I write rap songs and I have erased or scratched out lines that I later thought were a better fit then my edits. But since I deleted them I had no way to remember them. So keep everything and recopy if you it becomes too illegible.
