TIPS TO BETTER SIGNALS FROM A WIRELESS NETWORK

These days almost everyone has a wireless network in their home.  Wireless networks allow you the free move about your home with your laptop or wifi ebabled device and still be able to access the internet without the need for wires or cords.  In order to use a wireless network your laptop of pc will need to have a wireless network card installed or a usb network device.  Each device will need to be set to the same group name and have the same security keys to access the network.  Once you have all the required elements you can set you device to automatically log into the network when you are in range of the signal and the device detects the network signal.

Many times there are issues with receiving the signal from the network to keep you online the further that you travel away from the wireless network router.  The wireless router is what broadcasts the internet and network signal coming from your high speed modem.  Uusually a model is either either a DSL modem or a cable modem.  DSL is run through your existing home phone line and is many time faster than a regular dial-up connection.  Cable internet is provided thru your local cable television provided and is said to be a bit faster and safer than DSL.  Your wireless router doesn't care which of the two ways you access the internet.  Its job is to convert that internet signal into a wireless sign and transmit it to wireless devices in the range of the router with the proper credentials to access that signal on the network.

The signal can be low or lost completely for many reasons.  The further away you move from the signal the weaker it will get and cause issues logging and staying logged into the network.  Also other wireless devices being placed in close proximity to the wireless router can affect the signal range and direction.  A 2.4Ghz cordless phone can affect the signal if it is in range of the router or sitting close to it.  The wireless signals from the cordless phone and the wireless router are very similar and they can cancel each other out somewhat if they are too close to each other.  2.4Ghz cordless phones can keep a signal from from reaching your wireless devices especially if the phone sits in the direct path between the router and you laptop or pc.  If you have a 2.4Ghz device in you home such as cordless phones, baby monitors or other wireless devices like wireless security cams it is a good idea to move your wireless router away from these devices.  One way to achieve a better signal in these circumstances is to locate the wireless router in the center of your home and mount it at least 6-8 feet off of the ground where it's far above where most of your other wireless devices would be.  Try placing the laptop at different places in your home when you have centralized your wireless network router and test the signal strength of your connection.  This should greatly improve your signal.
